elphaba and glinda find reassurance in the dark.
nothing bad’s gonna happen in next week’s episode, right? …right?

elphaba’s hand finds glinda’s in the dark easily.
glinda squeezes it, warm and flustered. she wishes she could take elphie away from this place—or at the very least, up to the attic. “awake?” she’s not entirely positive the others are asleep, but she’s speaking softly.
“yeah.”
“thinking?”
“yeah.” elphie sighs. “i think they’re onto us.”
glinda giggles, quietly as she can. “i don’t think so.”
“the coaches.”
“the c—“
“they have matching…rainbow…bracelets.”
glinda laughs again. “that doesn’t have anything to do with us. at least, i don’t think it does. probably not.”
it’s quiet enough that glinda can only imagine elphaba chewing on her lip, like she always does when she’s concentrating too hard.
“they’re probably just like, supporting battler?” glinda offers, and then adds, “or maybe they—“ but she can’t finish that sentence. it seems outlandish, and presumptive, and maybe even rude, to accuse their coaches of being anything more than allies to their teammate. even though it might be kind of nice, if they had that in common.
“…right. i always forget that—“
“yeah, i do too.” glinda pulls elphaba closer, pulls her hand to her heart. “are you okay? i mean. i mean that even if they know—it’s sort of—well it’s okay right? because they’re cool with battler? don’t get me wrong i wouldn’t tell i wouldn’t—i’m—“
“glinda?”
“yes, my love?”
“are you worried because i’m worried or are you worried for other reasons?”
she hesitates. she’s not really worried tonight. other nights, most nights, she’s the one who stayed up whispering that no one could know, that her life would be ruined. but they’re been out here so long the consequences don’t feel real right now. what’s real is elphaba, in the sleeping bag next to her, and her teammates, and the frost she saw clinging to the windows last night. “i’m worried that you’re worried, yes.”
“come here,” elphaba says, and finds her lips to kiss them.
glinda kisses her back, as quietly as she can and for much shorter than she’d like.
elphaba presses her forehead to glinda’s. “i’ll be okay.”
“are you jusy saying that because you’re worried that i’m worried that you’re worried?”
elphaba giggles and kisses her again. “maybe. but it’ll be okay. we’re all gonna be okay.”
glinda takes a deep breath, and tries to believe it. “yeah. okay.”
